Woman admitted after being struck and electrocuted by lightning in Rumphi

A woman aged 41 has been admitted to Rumphi district hospital after being struck and electrocuted by lightning yesterday.

Police have identified the woman as Marita Chirwa from Kasawambe village in the area of T/A Chikulamayembe.

Rumphi police spokesperson, Tupeliwe Kabwiro, said on the date there was heavy rain associated with thunderstorms in the area.

“The victim was playing with her one-year-old child inside her house close to the opened window when she was struck by the lightning,” he said.

The baby was not affected.

The mother was referred to Rumphi hospital from Bolero Health Centre.
