Someone diverting attention from corruption fight

My lord, it is neither the qualification of the Nyasaland National Football Team to the last 16 in the continental competition nor the camping of Nyasaland citizens on online pages of the media house of imperialists’ that had me intrigued this week.

Rather it is the knee-jerk activism and the attendant press briefings led by the man who appears to have received a Winning-Call from some yet -to-be identified betting masters that had me worried.

My lord, I know how the Nyasaland Constitution jealousy guards against tyranny by providing checks and balances and this is where activism places its relevance in that equation.

My lord, I gave the guy with a Winning- Call the benefit of doubt when he stepped up to the plate and dressed himself in activism garb, throwing ultimatums here and there for justifiable reason, too, after noting some excesses sponsored by the ruling elite.

Those who saw that the voice of reason was absent after the Nyasaland Rights Defenders Coalition was swallowed by the entity they helped to usher into power, looked at the Winning-Call guy as god-sent.

As you know, my lord, the turn of events in the political arena was more or less like a story of a clown becoming a protagonist in the drama of taking people to account.

My lord, but if I may be allowed, that 15-minute fame he got for leading demonstrations has been his undoing.

Though he still enjoys the right to protest, his being all over the place without a clear sense of direction is a cause for concern.

I expected an activist to do a proper research on an issue he wants people to protest against and if you checked, his pronouncements on the intention to storm the Nyasaland Police and King African Rifles (KAR), you get an impression that there is a puppeteer behind the whole drama.

Our colleague seems to be excited about protesting even on issues he hardly understands as long as the puppeteer says so.

My lord, I can submit that the Winning-Call guy of the betting fame is slowly diverting Nyasas from the real issues of fighting corruption, which should have been pre-occupying the citizens.

Meanwhile, politicians both in government and opposition and other beneficiaries of corruption are celebrating that the pressure, on the need to follow to some cases to logical conclusion, is easing courtesy of the Winning-Call guy’s diversion.

My lord, we seriously need not relent on the fight against corruption, which has impoverished this country for decades, but we are not going to win that fight with strategies that are meant to stop us from focusing on the prize.

I know the law does not stop people from protesting, but I have problems when we go to the streets without understanding what we want.

Regards,

John Citizen
