SADC member states opt for coordinated climate action

Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change Eisenhower Mkaka on Tuesday said Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states must prioritize efforts that will develop a coordinated climate action roadmap.

Mkaka made the remarks in Lilongwe, when he briefed members of the press ahead of the SADC Green Climate conference to take place in Lilongwe, slated for the 13th to 14th April.

He said the conference will seek to consolidate and promote enhanced climate action by assessing the status of climate action in the region.

“The SADC Climate Action Conference provides an ideal platform to consolidate and promote enhanced climate action within the SADC region,” he said.

He said by the end of the two days conference there should be an understanding of the status of climate action in the region and appreciation of the linkages between international commitment, regional, national and sub- national initiatives to ensure coherent and effective climate action.

In addition the Minister said the conference seeks to assess the outcome of the Conference Of Parties 26 (COP26) in relation to SADC’s COP26 position and agreement on a COP27 road map.
