Police investigate theft of 53 bags of cement from Shayona Cement Company After Vehicle Caught Fire In Dowa

Police in Mponela, Dowa, have launched a manhunt for individuals suspected of stealing 53 bags of cement belonging to Shayona Cement Company.

The theft occurred after a vehicle transporting the cement caught fire in the district last night.

According to Macpatson Msadala, spokesperson for Mponela Police Station, a freightliner truck belonging to AS Investment was transporting 700 bags of Thanthwe Cement from Shayona Cement Factory in Kasungu to Kanengo.

Upon arrival at Malovu Trade Centre, the vehicle developed a fault and caught fire. The driver, Yohane Jere, managed to stop the vehicle, but unknown thieves arrived immediately and made off with 53 bags of cement.

Meanwhile, the police has appealed to the public to be on the lookout for anyone selling the stolen cement and report them.
