Orton Chirwa’s mausoleum construction to go on, govt to spend MK1.4billion

The Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will continue constructing the Orton Chirwa Mausoleum at a tune of K1.4 billion.

The development follows a no objection order granted to Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA).

This means that the Ministry will go on offering a contract to Hema Construction Limited and Central Construction Group Limited JV joint venture.

According to the no objection order, PPDA said the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) shall monitor the execution of the project throughout all the phases and that any alteration to the contract shall need prior clearance from the authority and the ACB.

Earlier this year, the project was withdrawn following criticisms from Malawians.

Malawians claimed that the amount was on the higher side.
