Ministry Of Health Warns Against Fraudsters

Malawi’s Ministry of Health has cautioned the general public of fraudsters who are using the global pandemic Coronavirus to scam people through their fake monetary support.

It is reported that some people are receiving Send Text Message (SMS) informing people that they have received Covid-19 money from the Ministry and putting numbers for the people to call and claim their money.

According to a statement seen by this publication, the Ministry of Health has stressed that it is not giving any monetary support to Malawians.

“The Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that it is not giving any COVID-19 monetary support to the public through any means including the mobile money platforms,” read part of the statement.

The statement continued; “It has to be pointed out clearly that there is no such arrangement by the Ministry of Health and if anyone receives such messages, they should report to the Police so that the fraudsters are apprehended.”

The ministry has also asked network providers to block the numbers and security agencies to investigate and bring the fraudsters to book.
