Standard Bank plc has unveiled urban musicians Kell Kay and dancehall sensation Eli Njuchi as official musicians for this year’s Be More Race scheduled for Saturday in Lilongwe.

Head of brand marketing Nyambura Chege said the two artists will take up the entertainment slot of the race and will aim to provide relaxation to athletes and other participants through music performances.

“The partnership with music speaks for itself about the positioning of the race as a national event that unites all different interest groups,” he said.

Chege said the bank is continuing with its tradition of partnering with local musicians which started as far back as 2017 as they realise that music and sports go together.

Reacting to the announcement, the two artists said they are excited with the opportunity to be selected to be part of such an event.

“There are a lot of artists in Malawi who are talented. To be chosen out of that pool is something I don’t take for granted. Together with my backing band I will give it my best shot to add on the fun of the race,” said Kell Kay.

On his part Eli Njuchi said: “It is an honour to be among the country’s creatives collaborating with Standard Bank in this undertaking. As an artist it is an extension and an opportunity for growth.”

This year’s Be More Race will take place under the theme Road 2 Recovery, which focuses on the role the bank is playing in facilitating the country’s recovery after two years of contending with the Covid-19 pandemic.
