Government To Spend K30 Million On Independence Day Celebrations

Sam Kawale, Chairperson for the Ministerial Committee on the Independence Celebrations says Government will spend less than K30 million on the celebrations.

Initially, the budget for the celebration was pegged at Mk400 million.

Kawale disclosed this in Lilongwe during media briefing on Friday.

Kawale added that the celebrations have been moved from Blantyre to Lilongwe in order to cut off expenses.

“The 58th independence commemorations will only focus on prayers at Malawi Square-BICC,” Kawale explained.

The Minister of information Gospel Kazako was also present at the briefing.
