Fuel Prices Up

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced an increase in fuel prices effective today, April 10, 2022.

This is according to a statement April 9 2022 and signed by recently appointed MERA board chairperson Reckford Kampanje.

According to the statement, petrol price has been raised by 20 percent, from K1 150 to K1 380 per litre.

Diesel price has gone up by 31.25 percent from K1 120 to K1 470 per litre while paraffin has been adjusted by 14.74 percent from K833.20 to K956 per litre.

Last week, the state house officials told the press that fuel prices are likely to go up because the country could not afford the then prices.

However, the officials added that the new prices will not be huge saying that President Lazarus Chakwera had already consulted MERA Board to be considerate in their decision on fuel prices hike.

Meanwhile, Malawians are reacting to the newly revised fuel prices as different stakeholders are yet to comment on the matter.
