FDH Bank has donated K2 million to the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter for awards at this year’s  commemoration of World Press Freedom Day.

She said: “FDH Bank plc believes that the media helps in enhancing brand visibility, customer service, financial inclusion and helps companies obtain a competitive edge, therefore, being a true partner”.

As part of World Press Freedom Day, every year Misa Malawi gives out awards to outstanding journalists. This year’s media award gala dinner is taking place at Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay this evening, according to communication from Misa-Malawi secretariat.

Misa-Malawi chairperson Teresa Ndanga, who received the K2 million cheque, expressed gratitude to FDH Bank for the support. She said the donation will motivate journalists and help promote professionalism.

Ndanga said: “We thank FDH Bank for recognising the press as a partner. We all serve people and our common goal is to ensure that people’s lives improve. We are, therefore, happy to have this kind of partnership”.

She further called on the bank for a sustained partnership with Misa-Malawi.

The FDH Bank donation will go towards Sports Journalist of the Year, Lifetime Achiever, Best Girl and Woman awards.

FDH has also donated branded T-shirts to be worn during the event.

World Press Freedom Day falls on May 3 and this year’s commemoration in the country  is being held in the Northern Region under the theme ‘Journalism under Surveillance’.
