COVID-19 Travel Restrictions Loosen Up

The Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has relaxed some covid-19 restrictions following the observation made by the presidential task force on the decline in the number of new confirmed cases and admission of the pandemic in the country.

Chiponda said the easing of the restrictions should not make Malawians relax as the risk of the disease spreading remains high.

She said limitations for workplaces have been lifted to normal office capacity, limitations on public transport carriage have been lifted to normal capacity of the vehicle. on gatherings, 50% of the venue for indoor events with a maximum of 500 persons and 2,000 persons for outdoor events shall be observed with a provision to recommend vaccination certificates and to offer covid-19 vaccination at the venue of events.

She said all the relaxed restrictions should still be subjected to the observance or recommended general public health preventive measures especially the use of face masks, frequent washing of hands with soap, use of sanitizers and social distancing, and frequent disinfection of offices.

Meanwhile, Chiponda has called on the public to continue adhering to the preventive and containment measures so as to suppress further the new infection.
