Police in Kanengo, Lilongwe, have arrested a couple, 19-year-old Innocent Mbewe and his 15-year-old wife, in connection to the murder of a 6-year-old child, Loyce Tembo.

Kanengo Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira has told the press that on October 21, 2023, the girl’s mother, Caroline Tembo reported to police that the girl had gone missing and since then, officers have been investigating the matter.

“And yesterday, we received information that the deceased had been buried in the suspects’ house at Chatata Village where the reporter also stays. Following this, officers went to the scene and upon arrival, they discovered that the pit where the body was buried was newly-dug, wet and with some flies around it,” Ngwira said.

After digging, police found the body in a sack and in a decomposed state.

Police officers got a tip that the suspects were in Area 24 and they proceeded to arrest them.

According to Ngwira the couple claims that some “Satanists” promised the couple K38 million if they killed the girl.

Mbewe hails from Nsanje while his wife hails from Kasungu.
