Mighty Wanderers appoint Wadabwa strikers’ trainer

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have appointed former forward Peter Wadabwa as strikers’ trainer.

Wanderers chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi on Thursday said they believe the experienced striker  has the qualities to help the team improve its striking force.

“He is the right person for the job based on his vast experience as a goal poacher both on the local and international stages. We are hopeful that his inclusion in our technical panel will bring us joy this season,” he said.

Wadabwa, who retired from active football in 2022 and played for the Nomads between 2016 and 2019, on Thursday said he was happy to have rejoined the Lali Lubani Road outfit and he is ready for the challenge.

He said his first assignment is to ensure that Wanderers strikers avoid making unnecessary passes in the box.

“A striker’s job is to score goals and, when you find an opportunity in the box, the first thing is to shoot at goal. I have noted that the Nomads strikers tend to opt for unnecessary passes in the danger zone and that will change,” he said.

Currently, Wanderers have scored eight goals and conceded two in five TNM Super League matches. They are fourth on the 16-team log table with nine points. Silver Strikers lead the pack with 13 points.

Apart from playing for Wanderers on the local scene, Wadabwa also donned Silver Strikers and the now-defunct Escom United colours. In foreign leagues, he played for Jomo Cosmos, Thanda Royal Zulu and Golden Arrows in South Africa. He also had a stint with Mozambican side Desportivo De Maputo.
