Chiromo police in Nsanje are keeping in custody 25-year old for allegedly assaulting to death his friend, Tau Richard, aged 21, in the district.

Spokesperson for Nsanje Police Agnes Zalakoma, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Frank Njanji who went on a drinking spree with his friend Tau and picked a quarrel at a bar.

“Tau reportedly picked a bottle and threw at the suspect but it went off target. Frank in retaliation, stabbed his friend on the stomach with a knife.”

According to Sub Inspector Zalakoma, Tau fainted and was rushed to Kalemba Community hospital where he breathed his last in the course of receiving treatment.

The suspect comes from Pacholo village while the deceased hailed from Jonikisi village both under Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje district.
