Man attacked by crocodile at Likoma Island

A person in Likoma Island has been hospitalized at St Pete’s Mission Hospital after being bitten by a crocodile in the lake.

Likoma police spokesperson Enala Kalua told Malawi News Agency that Mr. Jalu Jerebu went to bathe in the lake with his wife, because of heat, they went to take a bath, and it was around 9 o’clock at night.

“The woman was the first to come out of the water and she was surprised that her husband was not coming out, then she heard her husband shouting that he was being attacked by the beast. People in the area rushed to the scene, and rescued the a 31 years old man (Jalu Jerebu)  and took him to police station where he was taken to the hospital,” said Kalua.

She advised people living on the beach not to go swimming at night to avoid such accidents.

Jalu Jerebu comes from Makuzi village, T/A Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.
