High Court in Lilongwe Hears MultiChoice vs. Macra Case Over DStv Prices Premiums

The High Court in Lilongwe is currently hearing a significant case involving MultiChoice Malawi and the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (Macra). This legal dispute centers on the adjustment of DStv premiums in the country.

Macra has accused MultiChoice Malawi of violating the law by not notifying them about the proposed premium review, leading to a regulatory clash.

The conflict has resulted in MultiChoice Africa Holdings (MAH) withdrawing its pay television services from Malawi, impacting its subscribers.

In response, Macra has imposed a fine of K19 million on MultiChoice Malawi, demanding payment before the DStv services are officially withdrawn.

MultiChoice Malawi argues that it does not directly provide DStv services but serves as a subscription management entity, primarily handling customer service for MAH’s DStv subscribers in the country.

More details to come…
