Child rights activist welcomed the new signed child rights bill

One of the country’s child rights activist Memory Ngosi has praised President Lazarus Chakwera for signing into law bill  that will see those involved in raping or defiling children liable to life imprisonment.

Ngosi said that the amendments will help to contain cases of sexual abuse against children in the country. The amendment made to penal code has also indicated that the underage person is those 18 from 16 years.

The new signed law is indicating that anyone below the age of 18 is a child and the one that has sexual intercourse with a child shall be liable to life imprisonment

Ngosi has however urged judiciary not to be selective when applying the law on culprits found on the wrong side of the law.
