HRCC Calls on Parliament to Review Leaked Audio Involving ACB DG Martha Chizuma

The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has called on the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament to review the leaked audio involving Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma and a third party.

In a letter delivered to the committee, HRCC Board Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba raised concerns that if the issue is not resolved, it may negatively impact the operations of the ACB.

Chizuma made a number of allegations against several individuals in the audio. President Lazarus Chakwera has previously stated that those affected by the contents of the audio are free to pursue legal action against Chizuma in their personal capacity.

However, Mkwezalamba argues that as long as the ACB continues to pursue matters in court, the issues raised in the audio will continue to resurface.

He suggests that the matter be resolved or for the ACB to release a full list of suspected corrupt judges and public officials, instead of painting all with the same brush.
