ZBS assists Cyclone Freddy Victims

Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) last week distributed relief items collected from listeners, viewers, and followers in Chiradzulu and Chikwawa districts as part of the Cyclone Freddy response.

The items donated include goats, clothes, maize flour, sugar, soap, instant porridge, and sanitary materials for women and girls among others.

ZBS board member, Beatrice Msindira who today led in relief items distribution the donation is the result of the initiative the station set due to the effects of Cyclone Freddy.

This donation was made in response to the government’s call to put aside our differences and come together to help. We utilized our platform to encourage the people we serve to donate whatever they could.

“The collected items will also be donated to aid centers in affected districts of the southern region, as many people have responded with both cash and goods,” she said.

Chiradzulu District Commissioner, Francis Matewere said 24 024 households were affected by the disaster with 1688 households in the 40 camps.

He said: “We would like to commend Zodiak and our other partners for assisting the survivors. We have received food and non-food items that will go a long way in helping them settle back into their daily lives.

“The council is currently in the process of decommissioning some of the camps since the schools that were hosting the victims will have to reopen on April 17th. We will provide them with take-home packages so that they can return and begin rebuilding their lives.”

Patrick Julius, the camp leader at Jombo Centre in the area of Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa, expressed gratitude towards ZBS for their timely support to the affected households where lactating mothers have been reached with the aid.
