Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Body Arrests Former Army Secretary Over Presidential Jet Deal

The recent arrest of Evaristo Sakala, former Army Secretary at the Ministry of Defence in Zambia, has sent shockwaves throughout the country.

Sakala has been charged with willful failure to comply with applicable law and procedure, in relation to the procurement of the Gulfstream G650 Presidential Jet, for which he is alleged to have been involved in corrupt practices totaling 400 million United States Dollars.

The Anti Corruption Commission Head Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, stated that Sakala, as Army Secretary and a member of the Ministerial Procurement Committee, willfully failed to comply with the applicable law and procedure in the manner he approved the award of the tender.
