Zambian Woman In Custody For Killing Her Friend’s Baby

Mufulira, Copperbelt – A 35-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of her neighbor’s one-month-old baby. Christine Musonda, of Kawama East Township, was taken into police custody on Saturday and charged with manslaughter.

According to reports, the baby’s mother, Marian Chinyama, 32, had reported to the police that her baby boy had died after Musonda allegedly slept on him. The incident happened while the baby was sleeping in his crib at home.

Musonda admitted to the police that she had been drinking before the incident occurred. She claimed that she had mistakenly entered her neighbor’s house, thinking it was her own, and then slept on the baby boy, causing his death.

“When I returned from drinking, I entered my neighbor’s house thinking it was mine and slept on the baby boy. That’s how he died. I never intended to kill him; it’s beer that has caused all this,” she lamented as she cried.

The police have since charged Musonda with manslaughter, and she remains in custody pending her court appearance.
