Zambian Police Shoot Two Innocent Civilians In Lusaka Shootings

A 17-year-old Grade 12 pupil at Chibolya Secondary School in Lusaka and a 24-year-old lady identified as Tracy Kadantu, are nursing injuries after been accidently shot by Police Officers who were pursuing suspected criminals.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, notes that the incident happened Tuesday around 14:00 hours along Malambo Road in Emmasdale.

Hamoonga says the report indicates that Officers were chasing alleged criminals in two motor vehicles, identified as a Toyota Mark X and a Toyota IST, both without captured registration numbers.

The Police Officers were pursuing a black Toyota Progress with registration BAF 5711.

Hamoonga noted that the juvenile pupil sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg, while Kadantu sustained a wound to the left leg from stray bullets.

The report of the incident was made known to Police by David Changwe, aged 54, who acted as a good Samaritan.

Changwe, who encountered the victims, rendered assistance by transporting them to Lusaka Central Police Station were Medical Forms were issued and the dual immediately rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for medical treatment by Police.

Hamoonga has described the condition of the victims as stable, further reassuring the public that every effort will be made to establish the facts.
