Woman Slapped 6 Years Imprisonment Over Theft

Senior Resident Magistrate  court sitting in Lilongwe has convicted and sentenced a 23-year-old woman to  spend six years in imprisonment with hard labour  for stealing various items worth K1 Million.
State prosecutor Sub Inspector Chifundo Machemba identified the convict as Bertha Petulo who hails from Mwetere village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo District.
Machemba told the court that said Petulo was employed by Mrs Joana Msiska as a housemaid.
“while there, Petulo stole home theater, five external hard drives, laptop and DVD player”, Adds Machemba
Petulo pleaded guilty to the charge of theft by servant but Machemba prayed for a stiffer sentence; arguing such cases are rampant in the area.
Senior Resident Magistrate Taonga Prisca Muwalo concurred with the state and slapped Petulo with the 6-year jail term to deter other would be offenders.
