Police in Mzuzu have arrested Esther Gondwe,39, for stealing from people at weddings and funerals in Mzimba district.

According to Mzuzu police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi, the suspect has been arrested following complaints from people in the district.

Nkhwazi added that Gondwe has been robbing people in funerals and weddings by pretending to be one of the family members.

The suspect was arrested on 8 January 2024 after police traced one of the phones that was stored.

One of the people who was robbed, Thandizo Maguja, said she was robbed a phone after attending his brother’s wedding in Mzuzu.

Esther Gondwe hails from Nthangamwembe  village Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district.
