Police in Mwanza district have arrested a 26-year-old woman for allegedly dumping an infant in a pit latrine at Chatha village in the district.

Spokesperson for Mwanza Police Station, Sergeant Hope Kasakula confirmed that the suspect is identified as Magret Piason of Chatha village, Traditional Authority Kanduku in mwanza district.

It is said that the woman’s father woke up to pass urine at the toilet and was alarmed to hear a baby crying in the latrine.

This prompted the father to call his wife, who rescued the infant.

Magret was then taken to Mwanza District Hospital where it was proven that she had given birth and then she accepted the infant.

Meanwhile, Mwanza Police are advising women to stop such malpractice calling it wrong and inhumane.
