Police in Mwanza are keeping in custody Dyna Mphande, 59, for shoplifting in Brighton Supermarket at Mwanza Boma in the morning of May 3, 2023.

Mwanza Police Station Spokesperson, Sergeant Hope Kasakula said Mphande was arrested by police on patrol who were informed by shop attendants that they saw her picking some bottles of Vaseline body lotion from a shelf but did not go to the counter to pay.

“After searching her, the suspect was found with six bottles of Vaseline body lotion for men worth about K28, 000 which she hid under her dress,” said Kasakula.

Kasakula said one of the attendants in the shop was observing her movements while she entered the shop and reported the incident to his bosses who called the police.

“After interrogation, Mphande confessed to have stolen the items and that she wanted to sell them to have some money to buy maize for her family,” said Kasakula.

Mphande is expected to appear before Mwanza Magistrate’s Court to answer theft charges.
