WHO Restores Cholera Treatment at Area 25 Health Centre After Rioting Incident

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stepped in to restore cholera treatment at Area 25 Health Centre in Mgona, following a destructive incident where irate residents destroyed the hospital’s cholera treatment structures.

Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, expressed her gratitude towards WHO for their assistance in setting up a new cholera treatment tent.

“What happened in Area 25 was very unfortunate, but with the help of our partners, we have moved in and put standard structures in place that will improve access to treatment,” she said.

In response to the rioting, the police have arrested 14 individuals in connection with the looting and destruction of hospital equipment and a police riot vehicle.

National Spokesperson for Police Services, Peter Kalaya, has stated that more arrests will be made as investigations continue.
