If you’ve been on social media this week, you’ve probably seen people talking about September 24 2022.
Everyone is obsessed with the random day on TikTok and Twitter, but why? What is happening on September 24?
Well, it’s the latest viral doomsday meme date and thousands are panicking it will be the end of the world.
Here’s everything you need to know…
PEOPLE THINK SEPTEMBER 24 WILL BE DOOMSDAY
People online are predicting that all kinds of bad things are going to happen on September 24 that will cause the end of the world.
Natural disasters, a zombie apocalypse, World War Three. You name it, people are conspiring that it’s going to happen in exactly four days at the time of writing this.
The date has gone viral as many predict that it will be doomsday, which is the last day of the world’s existence, and this isn’t the first time a day has gone viral on social media.
Potential end of the world dates go viral on social media all the time, and panic is usually sparked by something specific.
In this case, a video of a German politician saying something ominous and rumours of a potential solar flare have instigated panic online.
One person wrote on Twitter: “September 24th is the new meme date for end of the world now huh.”
“I’m probably watching too many TikTok videos but for the first time in my life I’m thinking of prepper shopping before September 24. #September24,” said another.
A third person added: “I’ve watched many videos on TikTok about September 24, don’t know what’s coming, but it’s alarming. Stay safe everyone.”
GERMAN POLITICIAN VIDEO SPARKS PANIC
People think a big event is going to happen thanks to a video of German politician Friedrich Merz speaking in the Bundestag which has gone viral.
In the clip, the Leader of the Opposition says: “This 24th of September will remain in our memories. In the future we’ll say ‘I remember where I was on that day’.”
It’s unclear what the politician was actually talking about in the short clip, but it’s sparked fear on social media as people wonder what will happen on September 24.
He obviously wasn’t talking about the end of the world, but it’s got people predicting doomsday nonetheless, and an alleged solar storm had aided the argument too.
SOLAR STORM TO CAUSE THE END OF THE WORLD
On social media, some people are also predicting that a solar storm will occur on September 24 which will cause the end of the world.
A solar storm, also known as a solar flare, is an intense eruption of electromagnetic radiation in the Sun’s atmosphere.
They’re thought to occur when stored magnetic energy in the Sun’s atmosphere accelerates charged particles and the effects are sometimes felt on Earth.
The huge amount of energy is absorbed by the Earth’s atmosphere and never reaches the surface, but it can interfere with satellites and radio communication.
Solar flares pose no direct danger to humans on Earth, but conspiracy theorists on social media say the one on September 24 will be different.
There’s no proof that a solar flare is even going to occur, and the doomsday theories are pretty baseless, but social media users are running wild with the idea nonetheless.
Will anything actually happen on September 24? Probably not. It’s just another fake doomsday date that has sent the internet into a frenzy.
