The Wella Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Wemas) held a breakfast event at the Mount Soche Hotel on Thursday to show appreciation for its customers and discuss updates.
According to the chief executive officer of Wemas, Macdonald Wella, the company has experienced growth and success despite economic challenges.
Wella: We have trebled business during the year
He said: “As a fastest growing medical insurance company in the country, we have trebled our business during the year. This has been achieved because of our hardworking team and the support we got from the industry.
“We have managed to attract many customers from competitors and those without a medical scheme,” he said.”
Wella also noted that insurance companies in the country need to do more to increase insurance penetration as people are unaware of the benefits of insurance.
“The knowledge levels of insurance are the ones which reflect in the numbers of people who are buying insurance products. Most people think they have to be sponsored by company and we are working hard to change this mindset by talking to them that they can join us on their own,” he said.
On his part, human resource manager for Development Aid from People to People (Dapp), Elijah Jumbo, reported positive feedback from Dapp staff who are insured with Wemas
“Our members of staff are able to access medical services at various hospitals and clinics throughout the country,” he said.
