“The project had Tumbuka worship hymns and he was working with a relatively new team,” reads the statement in part.
The album launch is set for Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu on October 1 and 2.
“We will have separate events. A free reflective worship event on October 1 and the album launch on October 2 at the same venue,” said a member of the management team, Benard Phiri.
He said the initial plan was to host reflective worship event in all the regions of the country. The first event was scheduled for the Northern Region followed by one event in each of the two regions The reason was to create worship music that would be accessed by Christians that people should be able to reflect on.
Said Phiri: “He wrote some Chichewa songs, but unfortunately he passed on before we started working on them. So, the worship songs in the album are in Tumbuka with the team which I am part of. We were responsible for putting them together.”
He said reflective worship project will continue with a team that the late Wambali had set up.
“There is a choir and a band of about 28 members and a support team of about 200. Wambali was able to spend time with them to explain the whole concept. So, there will be a continuation of his music,” said Phiri.
He also said the team will explore how best they can proceed. The dates for the Lilongwe and Blantyre concerts will be announced in due course.
Currently, the late Wambali’s music can be accessed on his official website www.wambalimkandawire.com.
