VP Chilima Speaks

Malawi vice president Saulos Chilima has reserved his comment on President Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to withhold his delegated powers after his name was mentioned for allegedly conducting corrupt dealings with British-Malawian businessman Zuneth Sattar.

Speaking through his public Relations Officer Pilirani Phiri, Chilima who is also the United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader said at an appropriate time he will speak on the matter.

On Tuesday night, president Chakwera said he has decided to cripple the delegated powers of his deputy to pave way for investigations which the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is conducting on him and others named in the ACB report.

Following Chakwera’s decision, different stakeholders are calling for the resignation of the vice president adding that if he fails, the parliament should take a step by impeaching him.

Reacting on the matter, the UTM Party said it is shocked with the president’s decision but they still have faith in their leader and they will rally behind him.
