Chimwendo Banda:The country must move forward with unity and peace mantra for development’s sake

Minister of Local government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda says unity, peace and social cohesion are prerequisites for the country if it wants to move forward and attain new heights of socioeconomic development.

The Minister was speaking in Lilongwe today at press briefing where he announced that president Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has introduced the Umodzi Day with an aim of promoting peace and social cohesion in the country as the foundation of development.

In his speech, Chimwendo said that every citizen “must run towards” this unity and peace initiative.

“Unity is our biggest strength. The country must move forward with unity and peace mantra for development’s sake. We must defeat the ‘rising intolerance theory” that is crippling our development agenda.

“Our strength lies in a nation bound together by unity and that we as citizens of values must sacrifice everything just to attain peace, unity and tranquility irrespective of our languages, religion, ethnicity”, said Chimwendo Banda who is also leader of government business in Parliament.

The celebrations that have been budgeted at K100 million will be held in Lilongwe and president Chakwera is expected to grace the function
