United Democratic Front (UDF) has said the Party is yet to decide on whether to renew married vows with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2025 general elections or not.
The party said this when reacting to reports that some DPP top officials led by Charles Mchacha endorsing former President Peter Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer and Atupele Muluzi as his runningmate.
UDF spokesperson Yusuf Mwawa said that UDF is now a standalone party.
According to reports at hand, the move to have Peter Mutharika as candidate in 2025 polls has come as a solution to end the infighting in DPP, according to Mchacha.
“We want to face the 2025 Presidential Election as a formidable force to win it. With Mutharika and Atupele as his running mate, we are assured of getting back in power.
“Some people are worried about his age, but that is nothing. Check around the globe, you will find leaders much order than Mutharika,” said Mchacha.
He added: “Those interested in this position, we urge them to come to the convention to challenge Mutharika. We are not stopping anyone from joining the race because we are a democratic party.”
