Two people have died while 15 others have sustained injuries after vehicles they were traveling in collided on Sunday.
According to Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, Juma Saizi was driving a Nissan Caravan minibus from the direction of Lumbadzi heading to Kanengo with 14 passengers on board.
As he approached Magwero Primary School, he lost control of the vehicle, which swerved to the opposite direction where it collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota Vitz driven by Chiomba Kumwenda with four passengers on board.
Due to the impact of the accident, two passengers in the Vitz; Grecian Katenthe, a soldier who was based at Engineering Battalion in Kasungu and Geoffrey Mwamghunda whose full particulars are not yet known, died.
“They sustained head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at DeaYang Luke Hospital and Kamuzu Central Hospital respectively,” Ngwira said.
The Vitz driver has sustained a fractured right femur while the minibus driver sustained minor injuries.
Two passengers in the minibus have sustained fractured left arm and leg respectively while other passengers, including a woman, sustained soft tissue injuries.
