Two Nepalise nationals fined K20, 00 for illegal stay

Mangochi First Grade Magistrate court has ordered two Nepalese Nationals, Bhabi Muktan, 38 and Rabin Rai, 37 to pay a fine of K20, 000 or to serve a 10 month prison sentence after being found guilty of illegal stay.

Muktan and Rai pleaded guilty and were convicted accordingly.

Eastern Region Immigration Spokesperson Edward Chidzalo, the two have paid the fine but they will be deported back to their country, in line with the court order.

According to Chidzalo, the two entered the country as visitors through Songwe Border in Karonga on 6th September, 2022.

Chidzalo said the suspects were given a month to stay in Malawi and were expected to leave the country on 5th October, 2022.

But the stayed and did not renew their papers after expiry.
