Two minors drown in Nkhotakota

Police in Nkhotakota have confirmed the death of two minors who died after drowning in separate incidents in Nkhotakota.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Nkhotakota, Sergeant Chisomo Chuma said Umali Ashim, aged 15, drowned in Lingozi River and his body was found yesterday, while 14 year -old – Bashil Phiri, died while fishing on Chia Lagoon.

According to Chuma, Ashim, born epileptic, went missing on December 25, 2022 at Masakati Village and his body was later found floating in a decomposed state.

Phiri died while fishing when his fishing canoe overturned yesterday.

Postmortem results showed that death was caused due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
