A tragic incident occurred in Enukweni Township in Mzimba District where two men drowned in the Kawanda River.

The two men, who were in the company of five other people, were traveling to Chimfwansala village for field work when the incident occurred.

According to the Mzuzu Police Station Assistant Public Relations Officer, Mercy Chitonde, the men were in a vehicle that got stuck in mud due to increased pressure of the running water.

As heavy rains started to fall, they attempted to cross the Kawanda River before it filled up, but their vehicle eventually got stuck.

Four people managed to escape the overturned vehicle, but the remaining two drowned.

One of the deceased was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while the other person is still missing.
