Police in Mponela, Dowa are keeping in custody two men in connection to the murder of a 9 old girl, Edda Katengedza in the district.

The suspects has been identified as Hollace Fred Machaungula aged 27 and Albert Banda aged 29.

According to Mponela Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Macpatson Msadala said the incident occurred on 13 October 2023 at Chizoloondo Trading Centre in the district.

Msadala said, according to the reports gathered by Kalipano Police Unit detectives on 12 October 2023, the father to the deceased was at Chizoloondo Trading Centre selling cassava.He saw the late Edda and her young brother following him. When the father nocked off at around 23:00 he didn’t find the daughter home.

After conducted the research in the morning of 13th October and found her lying lifeless while naked in the garden at distance almost 1 kilometre from Chizoloondo trading centre.

Following this, Mponela Police instituted investigations that led to the arrest of the two who are currently behind the bars.

The two are expected to appear before court soon to answer murder charges.

Machaungula, hails from M’buta Village in the area of Senior Chief Kayembe while Banda hails from Chiwandira Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere, both from Dowa district.
