Police in Lilongwe have arrested three men for being found in possession of two firearms (pistols) and 12 rounds of live ammunition without a license.
Lilongwe Police publicist Hastings Chigaru has identified the suspects as Alex Chipiliro, 29, John Edward, 25, and Waiti Yamikani, 35.
He said through intelligence collection, Lilongwe Police detectives found out that the first suspect, Alex Chipiliro, was keeping a rifle at Airwing, Mbavi location.
“Later on Friday night, the law enforcers raided the suspect’s house at Air Wing where one pistol and 10 live bullets were recovered. Chipiliro and Edward, who were together at that particular time, were arrested,” said Chigaru.
Chigaru said during interrogation at Area 3, Chipiliro revealed that another pistol was in the custody of the third suspect at their home village in Thyolo district. The officers proceeded to Thyolo where the riffle was recovered.
Meanwhile, Investigations are underway to further establish where the suspects got these dangerous weapons, and if ever used in committing crimes elsewhere.
They will appear in court soon to answer a case of Found in Possession of Offensive Weapons (Firearms) Without a License.
