Two children from same family drown in Thondwe river in Zomba

Two children belonging to the same family have died after drowning in Thondwe river in Zomba district.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Zomba Police Station Sergeant Aaron Chilala, said the accident happened on Monday this week in the village of Savula chief Jari.

According to Chilala, the children who are 7- year- old Victoria Dinemu and 5- year- old Anold Dinemu went to the Thondwe river to swim and Anold went to a deep place and drowned, which made his sister Victoria to go resecure him but his sister failed to save him and they both drowned.

Some people managed to remove the children from the flooded area and rushed them to Pirimiti Hospital but they died before reaching the hospital.

Postmortem examination conducted at the hospital established that the two have died due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
