Two brothers arrested for robbing passengers in Nkhata Bay and Mzimba

Mzimba Police Station is keeping in custody two brothers who have been allegedly robbing people in Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba and Mzuzu City.

Spokesperson for Mzimba Police, Peter Botha identified the two as Blessings and Chimwemwe Chiumia both 22 years of age.

According to Botha, the two have been committing the offences by child-locking their taxi doors and later rob passengers of their belongings as they plied their business on the routes of Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba and within Mzuzu City.

Botha said the two were arrested at Raiply Police Road Block in Mzimba District after a passenger whom they had robbed tipped the law enforcers.

“The passenger complained that she boarded the Chiumias’ taxi at Mzimba National Bank premises on Tuesday, January 24,2023 but was dropped off before reaching her destination and robbed a purse in which there was cash amounting to K35,000 and a smart phone,” Botha said.

Police have so far recovered from the suspected robbers two cellphones, two smart phones, and two purse, some of which have already been identified by owners.

Meanwhile, police are asking members of public with information about the whereabouts of one of the suspects’ accomplice who is popularly known as Bwito who escaped during the arrest.

The two brothers hail from Chigwere Village in the area Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District.
