Two Brazilian Women Sentenced for Drug Trafficking in Blantyre

Two Brazilian women, Maria Freire and Estefani Moraes De Lacerda, have been convicted and sentenced by the Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre for drug trafficking.

The women were found guilty of possessing dangerous drugs and importing drugs without a permit.

As per the publicist at Chileka Airport, Dorrah Machila, the two women have been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison each.

They were arrested on November 17, 2022, at Chileka Airport, after they were found with cocaine weighing 3.6kgs and 3.5kgs respectively.

The court’s decision sends a strong message to those who attempt to engage in drug trafficking activities in the country.
