Truck driver arrested for stealing 600 bags of fertiliser

Lilongwe Police Station have arrested a 52-year-old truck driver for diverting and stealing 600 bags of NPK fertiliser.

Out of the 600, 280 bags have since been recovered.

According to Lilongwe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Foster Benjamin, suspect identified as Llyod Banda was arrested on Sunday September 25 2022 at Kaphiri.

Benjamin says the driver was coming from Beira in Mozambique  driving a truck registration  KK 609 loaded with 600 bags of NPK fertiliser that belonged to Mediterranean Fertiliser Limited.

“After clearing at Dedza Border, the driver later offloaded 320 bags which he sold to some agents before he proceeded to Lilongwe with 280 bags on board.”

Meanwhile, the suspect has since been charged with theft and is due to appear before Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court possibly this week.

He comes from Kaimvi Village Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe.
