Thyolo Magistrate Court Adjourns Former District Commissioner’s Land Sale Case

The Thyolo Senior Resident Magistrate Court has today adjourned the case involving former district commissioner Justine Kathumba, accused of selling council land without proper procedures, to June 6, 2024.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s senior legal and prosecution officer, Ngwambula Nundwe, requested to present new disclosures, which defense lawyer Chancy Gondwe contested.

Critical documents, such as certification of the land sale by Director of Finance Andrew Jafali, were not provided during the investigation, prompting objections from the defense.

To ensure fairness, the defense requested written submissions, granted by Senior Resident Magistrate Assunta Maxwell, with the Anti-Corruption Bureau given 14 days to file their statements.
