Three teachers, 5 learners arrested for cheating during PSLCE exams

The Malawi Police Service have arrested three teachers and four learners for allegedly being involved in cheating malpractice at Mtunthama Primary School in Dowa.

The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has confirmed of the development in a statement posted on its official facebook page.

It is alleged that two standard 7 learners of Chinkhuti primary in Lilongwe, a student of Byzanzi Secondary school and one student of Mbalame Community Day Secondary School were caught writing examinations for four candidates of Mtunthama primary school.

The four are Kelvin BANDA, a form one student at Mbalame CDSS who impersonated Maxwell BERNARD, ID # 088, Emily KANYIKA, standard 7 pupil at Chinkhuti primary school in Lumbadzi who impersonated Yosefe ELIZA, ID # 071, Rejoice LAMULANI, a standard 7 pupil at Chinkhuti primary school, Lumbadzi who impersonated Killion EMMA, ID # 035 and Emily BANDA, form one student at Bzyanzi CDSS who impersonated Lusungu CHIMA, ID # 013.

The cheating malpractice was arranged by three teachers namely; Mr. Venas MTONYA, Mrs. CHIOZA and Mrs. CHIMA.

In a related development, one candidate at Kafukule primary school has arrested by Rumphi police for being found in possession of reference material during Mathematics examination.

The learners have since been released on bail.
