Thieves Vandalize ESCOM Wires in Thyolo

Thieves have stolen cable wires belonging to state owned company, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) at Ndata Farm in Thyolo District.

The electric cables were located close to where there is a milk storage area for farmers.

According to the treasurer of the group in area, Chrispin Kazembe said this has happened because the wires have been without electricity since November 2022, due to the delay of the ESCOM organization to restore four damaged transformers in the area.

Kazembe said the problem has also affected the dairy farmers of the Namahoya group, Amazing Grace and New Dairy where 600 farmers are throwing away at least 1,000 liters of spoiled milk a day.

Meanwhile ESCOM’s press officer, Kitty Chingota, said that they have received the reports and ESCOM is buying transformers that will be restored in the damaged areas.
