The Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate’s Court sitting at Dwangwa, has on March 18, 2024, ordered a 17-year-old boy to be sent to Chirwa Reformatory Centre for theft in the district.
The court through State Prosecutor Inspector Thokozani Juziwel heard that, the boy, on the night of February 03-04, 2024, robbed Mrs Annie Chunga K450,000.00 cash.
This happened when the complainant slept at a certain funeral ceremony and took her business money to go for orders the following day.
He further told the court that the boy in conflict with the law has criminal record after stealing goats from various people in the village.
Appearing before Magistrate Kingsley Buleya, the boy pleaded liable guilty to the charge levelled against him and asked the court to exercise leniency when passing sentence.
However, state prosecutor Juziwel asked the court to send him to reformatory centre as one way of reforming his behaviour.
In his determination, Magistrate Buleya agreed with the state’s submission and therefore he ordered him to go to Chirwa Reformatory centre for 2 years.
Buleya said, his stay at the centre should help him to change his behaviour so that he grow into responsible citizen.
The child in conflict with the law, hails from Makuta village in the area of Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.
