ZAMBIA – A Teenager of Mtendere Township has attempted suicide by drinking a poisonous substance after being allegedly raped by four unknown male adults.

Father of the girl Christopher Tembo said the teenager said the rape incident happened on Tuesday night in Mtendere East.

Mr Tembo said the family discovered that his daughter was raped after she took the poisonous substance on Wednesday afternoon.

“I came from work on Wednesday afternoon only to find multitudes of people at my house. When I enquired what was going on they told me that my daughter had taken a poisonous substance and had been rushed to the hospital.

A quick intervention by health personnel at University Teaching Hospital helped to save her life. It was only when she got better that she confided in the aunt about the rape incident.
