Southern Region Water Board has said it will take about seven days for the dry tap situation in Zomba to be rectified.
The disclosure was made during an inspection tour by the Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia, to a site where a pipe that supplies water to the city got damaged as thieves were trying to steal pipe anchors that connect the pipes from the source.
Meanwhile, Mia has assured the Board that government will ensure resumption of water supply in the city and that in the meantime authorities will introduce temporary measures to address the water challenges.
Meanwhile, Duncan Chambamba Chief Executive officer for Southern region water board says about MK 150 Million has been already used, to maintain the damage and almost 500 Million kwacha will be used to fully maintain the damage.
Over 600 thousand people in Zomba have been affected by this act of vandalism.
Currently, the Malawi Defence Force soldiers are now on the site to provide security whilst the maintenance works are in progress.-MIJ ONLINE
