Malawian women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga started her new lease of life at French women’s side Paris Saint Germain (PSG) on a bad note following a 1-0 loss to Lyon in her debut on Sunday.

To make it worse, the Scorchers captain, who was in the starting line-up,  was shown a yellow card , according to flashscore.com.

This was PSG’s second Women’s First Division match, having won their first game 3-0 against Bordeaux.

The 27-year-old prolific forward said in an interview yesterday that despite the loss, she was satisfied with her performance.

Tabitha: I am still
settling down

“It wasn’t bad considering that this was only my first game and I am still in the process of settling down,” she said.

 In an interview with the club’s online news outlet en.psg.fr, during her unveiling last week, Tabitha was quoted as having said that her target is to score more than 20 goals this season.

She said: “I believe I can score a lot of goals as long as we play as a team because football is not individual. It is not about one player, it’s about team work.”

Tabitha joined PSG on a seson-long loan deal from Chinese women’s top-flight league side Wuhan Jiangda after another successful loan stint at Italian Serie A Feminile side Inter Milan where she won the golden boot with 23 goals in 21 matches to become the first African to achieve the feat.

PSG’s next league assignment is against St Etienne this Friday before switching their focus to the Uefa Women’s Champions League fixture against Manchester United on October 10.
